Process Group recently delivered another Sand Management Package. This package was destined for Petronas Carigali’s Angsi A platform, located offshore Malaysia. The project was undertaken in conjunction with Malaysian company Aerotactical Systems Sdn Bhd.
The Sand Management Package along with the ancillary equipment is designed to allow sand to be recovered from the main Production Separator, then collected and washed of oil to allow the sand to be discharged while meeting the environmental discharge regulations.
This package in designed for fully automated operation in 2 distinctly different modes:
Sand Flushing mode:
This mode removes solids from the Production Separators by fluidization and flushing sand that has built up in the bottom of the vessel. The operation occurs while the Production Separator remains on-line, processing oil, water & gas. The sand removed from the Production Separator is accumulated within the Sand Management Package.
Sand Washing Mode:
The accumulated sand is then washed of oil by fluidizing and then recirculating through a Desander Cyclone, using heated water. Passing the sand slurry through the Desander Cyclone washes the oil from the sand particles, while retaining the sand within the package.
The complete process design, mechanical design and fabrication were carried out at Process Group’s Melbourne office & workshop facility.
The use of Sand Management packages is becoming standard industry practice as they permit the removal of solids from production vessels and process trains without stopping Oil & Gas production. This avoids production losses and the need for personnel to enter process vessels.
